You are on a journey that is both similar and different than other parents.  It's an adventure that has its ups and downs, but can be very rewarding.  LDA of IL is here to help you, and we welcome your assistance.

Here are some general tips:

1.  Remember to give your child praise in his/her areas of strength and tell them that you love them everyday.

2.  Be sure your child has time for fun and has the opportunity to find an area in which they can be successful.

3.  Remember you are your child's best advocate and an equal and important part of the school team making decisions about the education of your child.

4.  Arm yourself with knowledge so you know what questions to ask.  Attend local workshops and conferences.  Use the library. Call LDA of IL (708/430-7532) to find out more.

5.  Remember this is a family affair.  Open communication within the family is important spouses, siblings and the child.
